Yu-Ying elementary school originated in the time of the year of 1941 when the Japanese occupied Taiwan. It was at the address of today´s PU LI junior high school. Form then to now , the school experienced several changes both the school name and the school address.

    First, in 1946, the government took over the school from the Japanese and renamed to PU LI third national school at the address of today´s PU LI second market.

    Second, by the school district dividing, the school renamed to Yu-Ying national school at Street Yu-Ying 20.

    Third, the government carried the responsibility of nine year´s compulsory education into practice, our school renamed again to Yu-Ying elementary school until now .

    The most changeable thing was the harm of the earthquake on SEP. 21, 1999. We spent four years to complete the school building reconstruction by the tenth principal Mr. Shu-kang Chiang who lead the teachers and students to engage in. And the inauguration of the new school took place on FEB 21, 2004.




    Based by the internal education essence and external environment, the campus scheme of our school has four primary planning ideas .

(1)Integrated and diversified learning space

      In order to change the traditionalized classroom style into cluster classroom, there are two kinds of classroom styles. In the kindergarten, the first grade, and the second grade, a unit was with two classrooms.And from the 3rd to the 6th grade, a unit was with four classrooms. These different styles are based on the new curriculum and are coincided with nowadays integrated , individual, and diversified educational tendency.

(2)Cluster campus space

      The whole school building depended on the environment characters, dividing into three clusters.

A.  The learning cluster form the kindergarten to the second grade

            In order to let the little children have the best playing and learning place just like a home, the buildings were built only one floor with half outdoor playing space. The children can be under care to learn what they  need.

B.  The learning cluster from the third to the sixth grade

      In the age of third to sixth grade, children grew up obviously in the way of the human relationship,physical strength and intelligence. They started to test the new thing and wished free to make decisions. So they have separated classroom , also with a half outdoor space connected the outdoor.

C. The core cluster

     Connected by a circular corridor, the core building is consisted of the gymnasium, audio-visual and art center, the teaching resources center and the administration center.It also became a communicated center of the teachers, students and community people.

(3)  Share with the people of the community.

     It is easy to connect from the center of the campus to every single space. And it is also opened to the people of the community. It can improve the relationship between not only people to people but people to land, and also appear an active landscape of the school .

(4) The environment education involve in the campus.

     The whole campus seems to be a center of the environment education. The result made from the dialogue between the campus and the nature, through the way communicating the children between not only people andnature but people and land, in order to obtain the environmental awareness by changing and influencing gradually. The environment education would be fused in the campus completely.




    The procedure of the reconstruction has five points.

(1) The harm of the earthquake

    On the date of SEP.21 1999 A.M. 01:47, all the buildings in our school were destroyed by an earthquake which grade was 7.3. The school got into the period of the reconstruction.

(2)   The adjustment after disaster

    After the disaster, our school became to refuge of the community people.The classrooms were the storerooms where could store the goods and materials. And the playground lived all over the victims of a nature disaster which to keep out wind and rain. The teachers and students returned to school on OCT.04,1999. We attended class at the Confucian temple on OCT. 12 again.

(3)   Simple classroom

    We found out another place to build simple classroom at SIN-SEN road No.152 on OCT.21, 1999. They finished on NOV. 6. Pupils attended class there on ONV. 22, 1999.

(4) Reconstruction

    The measure of area in the whole school was 3.3 hectares, and it spent three periods to construct.

    The first period started on APR. 21, 2001, and ended on the date of  NOV.15, 2002.

    The sponsor : Construction and Planing Agency Ministry of the interior.

    The second period started on SEP.12, 2002 and ended on JUN.9, 2003.

    The third period started on JUL.19, 2003 and ended on FEB.13, 2004.

(5)  Completion

     The ceremony of the lighting prayer will take place at the night of the date of FEB. 20, 2004.

     The series of the completion activities will take place on FEB. 21, 2004.




    The new campus has some features except special externals and materials of the architecture.

(1)   The complementarity of the design.

          The motionless learning area on the top region contained classrooms, offices and nature ecology field. The down region inclusive of a playground and a gymnasium were good to do the physical education activities. It showed up a diversified learning space, not only there were no interferences between movement and still learning, but helped each other.

(2)   The paths of movement no block.

      The whole paths of every activity were wide, comfortable , safe, convenient, and beautiful. It´s a good place for every child.

(3)   The balance for interior and outside.

     The floor of every classroom is made of wood, and it had a good natural light and well to ventilate. All of the things made the classroom became a warm home. In the case of the outside activity area, they have their own activity space from the kindergarten to sixth grade. And there is no doubt it is a paradise for child´s life by the green outdoor and the clean indoor.

(4)   Multiple-function gymnasium

     The gymnasium can be used for student group-activity, act, PE and community activity. You don´t worry about the weather , it has a best natural light and air and the best lovely place where the teachers, student and community people would like to go to.

(5)   The lower learning space

     The kindergarten, the first and the second grade were one floor building, and other buildings were built no more than two floors. They can make the children easy to touch the land.

(6)   The cluster space is based on the innovation of the curriculum.

     The learning space integrated the traditional classroom into cluster classroom . The style depended on the needs for the curriculum of the consistent between elementary school and junior high school.




    The whole new school gives the new hope to create the perspectives from the heart. There are four targets to carry out in the future time.

(1)   To be adept in using the space and to guide the children learning happily.

(2)   To develop the potentials of the students and to teach every student well.

(3)   To do the best in teaching with the teacher´s love.

(4)   To communicate with the community and to live with the nature.

    It is to stride across the reconstruction and to show the  life again. Yu-Ying elementary school is renewed after going through the harm of the earthquake. Except insisting on the quality of the education, we hope to build a happy learning space for children with every teacher, student, and parents in the future.
